Workshops provide opportunities for researchers, practitioners, scientists, engineers, entrepreneurs, developers, students, educators, programmers, and newcomers to exchange and discuss scientific and engineering ideas at an early stage before they have matured to warrant a conference or journal publication. In this manner, an IEEE Quantum Week workshop serves as a forum for common interests or as an incubator for a scientific community to form a research roadmap or share a research agenda. Workshops are the key to sustaining, growing, and evolving IEEE Quantum Week in the future. Note IEEE Quantum Week is a multidisciplinary quantum computing venue.<\/p>\n<p>Each workshop at IEEE Quantum Week 2021 is one day long (i.e., there are no half-day or two-day workshops) for a total of 4.5 hours (i.e., three sessions of 90 mins with 45 mins breaks between the three sessions).\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">Participation in an IEEE Quantum Week 2021 workshop is preferably open.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Please refer to the detailed <a href=\"\/2021\/authors\/call-for-contributions\/\">Calls for Contributions<\/a> as well as <a href=\"\/2021\/about\/conference-topics\/\">Conference Topics<\/a> and<span style=\"text-align: center;\"><a style=\"background-color: #ffffff;\" href=\"\/2021\/authors\/submission-deadlines\/\">\u00a0Submission Deadlines.<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li>Please refer to the pages <a href=\"https:\/\/easychair.org\/cfp\/QCE21\">EasyChair CFP<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<span style=\"text-align: center;\"><a style=\"background-color: #ffffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/easychair.org\/conferences\/?conf=qce21\">submit your contribution using EasyChair.<\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">For more information, please consult<span style=\"font-weight: bolder;\">\u00a0last year\u2019s conference program for now:<\/span>\u00a0the\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/qce20.quantum.ieee.org\/workshops\">QCE20 Workshops Program<\/a>\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">and the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/ieeecs-media.computer.org\/media\/conferences\/quantum\/quantumweek2020-program.pdf\">QCE20 Final Conference Program<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<h3>Workshop Proposal Evaluation Criteria<\/h3>\n<p>Workshops are accepted according to the following evaluation criteria:<\/p>\n<p>The potential of the workshop to advance the state of quantum computing and engineering research and practice;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Expected interest in and novelty of the workshop\u2019s topic among people in the quantum computing or engineering communities, as well as in other communities of related disciplines<\/li>\n<li>Impact of the workshop in forging a new research community and in facilitating new collaborations<\/li>\n<li>Interactive nature of the workshop\u2019s format; for example, a workshop with stimulating discussions will be preferred over one based solely on presentations<\/li>\n<li>Experience and ability of the proposers to organize a successful workshop<\/li>\n<li>Balance and synergy of the workshop with respect to other IEEE Quantum Week 2021 program elements.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Workshop Proposal Submission Format<\/h3>\n<p>Each workshop\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">proposal must conform at the time of submission to the\u00a0<\/span><a style=\"font-size: 1rem; background-color: #ffffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ieee.org\/conferences\/publishing\/templates.html\">IEEE Formatting Instructions<\/a><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">(i.e., title in 24pt font and full text in 10pt type, LaTEX users must use \\documentclass[10pt,conference]{IEEEtran} without including the compsoc or compsocconf option). The submission must also comply with the<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">\u00a0<\/span><a style=\"font-size: 1rem; background-color: #ffffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/journals.ieeeauthorcenter.ieee.org\/become-an-ieee-journal-author\/publishing-ethics\/\">IEEE Policy on Authorship<\/a><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bolder; font-size: 1rem;\">Each workshop proposal must include the following sections in one PDF file and in the order specified below. Sections 1-10 must not exceed four (4) pages. Each proposal must be submitted via the <\/span><a style=\"font-weight: bolder; background-color: #ffffff; font-size: 1rem;\" href=\"https:\/\/easychair.org\/conferences\/?conf=qce21\">EasyChair submission website<\/a><span style=\"font-weight: bolder; font-size: 1rem;\">. The call for papers and proposals can also be found on<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: bolder; font-size: 1rem;\">\u00a0<\/span><a style=\"font-weight: bolder; background-color: #ffffff; font-size: 1rem;\" href=\"https:\/\/easychair.org\/cfp\/QCE21\">EasyChair CFP<\/a><span style=\"font-weight: bolder; font-size: 1rem;\">.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">Please submit<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem; font-weight: bold;\">ONE PDF file<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">that includes all components of the proposal.<\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\"><b>Workshop title<\/b>\u00a0<\/span>\u2014 descriptive and attractive to potential participants.<\/li>\n<li><b>Workshop abstract<\/b> \u2014 200-250 words to be posted on QCE21 website.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\"><b>Workshop authors<\/b> \u2014 Contact information for all workshop organizers and clearly indicating the <b>main contact.<\/b><\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Workshop objectives<\/b> \u2014 define the short- and\/or long-term objectives of the workshop. While a QCE21 workshop is only 4.5 hours long, ideally the organizers have a long-term vision that expands beyond the workshop.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><b>Workshop relevance<\/b> \u2014 relevance to the fields of quantum computing and\/or quantum engineering (e.g., relate to QCE21 topics).<\/li>\n<li><b>Anticipated workshop outcomes<\/b> \u2014 form and\/or sustain a research community or working group, develop plan and enlist participants for a research roadmap, generate synergy between two research strands, develop a common standard, curriculum or platform \u2014 in the realm of quantum computing and\/or quantum engineering.<\/li>\n<li><b>Workshop format<\/b> \u2014 plans for soliciting or inviting presentations, keynote speakers (note: there is no budget for invited speakers), plans for generating discussions, or breakout sessions.<\/li>\n<li><b>Workshop target audience<\/b>\u00a0\u2014 including the expected background of the workshop attendees, the mix of industry and research participation.<\/li>\n<li><b>Workshop participants<\/b>\u00a0\u2014 expected minimum and maximum number of attendees, plans for soliciting and selecting workshop participants, and tentative list of workshop participants.<\/li>\n<li><b style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">Workshop organizer biographies<\/b><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\"> \u2014 A brief description of each organizer\u2019s background, including relevant past experience in organizing conferences and workshops \u2014\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"background-color: transparent; font-size: 1rem;\">200-250\u00a0words per organizer\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">to be posted on the QCE21 website.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent; font-weight: bold;\">Workshop\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ieeecsqce.wpengine.com\/2021\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/QCE21-Consent-and-Release-Form.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">consent and media release form<\/a><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">\u00a0\u2014 required for accepted workshops for all organizers and presenters<\/span><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">. This form is important for virtual meetings in order to broadcast the sessions.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h3>Important Workshop Proposal Requirements<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>All participants, including workshop organizers, keynote speakers, and invited guests, must register for the workshop.
