Biography<\/em><\/h3>

Dr. Wim van Dam is a Principal Researcher at the Quantum Systems group at Microsoft. His research focuses on quantum computation and quantum communication and his main interest is the development of new quantum algorithms that give a significant speed-up when compared with traditional, classical algorithms. Before joining Microsoft, Dr. van Dam was Head Quantum Algorithms at QC Ware and a professor at the departments of computer science and physics at UC Santa Barbara. He earned his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Oxford (UK) his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Amsterdam (The Netherlands). He was a postdoc at UC Berkeley, HP Labs Palo Alto, the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute in Berkeley, and MIT.\u200b<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Abstract<\/em><\/h3>

Achieving useful quantum computation requires us to overcome many challenges in physics, engineering, and computer science. Microsoft has been making progress in paving a path toward scale, through the demonstration of elusive Majorana physics, new constructions in quantum fault tolerance, and through the Azure Quantum platform. Scaling up requires three things: a fully scalable quantum machine, a high performance hybrid quantum cloud platform, and our collective creativity. I will share the unique approach we are taking, and how you can join us on the path to solving for a better future with quantum.
