Biography

Sergio Boixo leads the Quantum Computer Science group at Google Quantum AI. The mission of Google Quantum AI is to build best-in-class quantum computing for otherwise impossible problems. The Quantum Computer Science group builds quantum and classical computer science and engineering to materialize useful quantum computing. Sergio has a doctorate in physics from UNM, was a research professor at USC, and a postdoc at Harvard and Caltech. Previously Sergio worked as a computer engineer.

Abstract

In this talk, I will showcase Google’s recent progress in the field of quantum computing. Besides describing some of our recent hardware experiments, I will discuss how the benchmarking of quantum computers has advanced with our latest quantum processors. This benchmarking technique is arguably the entry point into the realm of classically intractable problems for any experimental quantum processing platform, be it digital or analog. I will also go over Google’s latest results in applications research, and give an update on our externally available (open source) software libraries, such as stim and Qualtran.
